In the middle of La Victoria, a poor but vibrant area of inner city Lima, an effigy of Our Lady of the Door (la Virgin de la Puerta) lives on the second floor of Don Luciano's car repair workshop. Her devotees, who visit her regularly and take her out in procession twice a year in May and December, include a group of transexuals. In the mid '90s Lorena 'la Piurana' or 'Luz Clarita' was their de facto leader.
